Having grown up as the son of a Baptist minister, Marcell Symonds is no stranger to the powerful sounds of gospel music. His journey began in his hometown church, Emmanuel Baptist in Upper Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, where he served not only as a solo artist but as a devoted member of the children’s choir, youth groups, and young adult choir.

Through these early experiences, Marcell developed both his gospel vocal skills and his leadership abilities, eventually becoming a founding member of the Cornwallis Street Baptist Church Praise Team, under the musical direction of pianist and organist Tracy Daye.

Marcell’s love and passion for gospel music have earned him numerous invitations to perform as a gospel soloist and featured artist at churches and faith-based events throughout Nova Scotia and across the Maritimes. His heartfelt delivery and rich, soulful tone continue to inspire audiences and uplift communities through music and faith.

In 2014, Marcell recorded his gospel CD titled “Just a Closer Walk” at Sharp Five Productions Studio. This meaningful project received widespread recognition and earned him a nomination for an East Coast Music Award (ECMA)—a testament to his enduring artistry and dedication to gospel music.

Today, Marcell continues to spread the word of the Gospel, not as a preacher over the pulpit like his father, but through his love of singing God’s word. His music reflects a lifelong commitment to faith, family, and the power of song to move hearts and lift spirits.
